About Chris

Chris is a clinical specialist physiotherapist dual trained in musculoskeletal sonography, and one of the UK pioneers of physiotherapist-led diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided injection. He is also one of the country’s leading educators in the field of guided injectors. He runs Complete Physio and Complete Injections in London, and is the founder of SMUG Training Limited (the Sports Medicine Ultrasound Group, www.ultrasoundtraining.co.uk), one of the UK’s leading providers of musculoskeletal ultrasound education.

Through SMUG, Chris teaches GPs, sports medicine doctors, orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists and other clinicians how to scan and inject accurately and safely. In the UK he trains clinicians across the NHS, including large teaching hospital groups, as well as elite and professional sport and private practice. Internationally, he has taught in Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Italy, Spain and Portugal, and has spoken at over 20 internationally recognised conferences. His YouTube channel has over 30,000 subscribers, making it one of the most widely used free resources in the field. He is an honorary lecturer at Queen Mary, University of London, and a visiting lecturer at University College London (UCL) and Canterbury Christ Church University.

Clinically, Chris has over 20 years’ experience treating adults and children across elite sport, private practice and the NHS. He has worked with England Squash, British Athletics, Tottenham Hotspur FC, Reading FC and Great Britain Badminton, and was a physiotherapist at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Chris uses diagnostic ultrasound to assess muscle, tendon, ligament, joint and nerve problems, and has been performing ultrasound-guided injections for over 10 years, carrying out more than 500 each year. This allows him to offer a true one-stop clinic: assessment, diagnostic scan and, where appropriate, a guided injection in a single appointment.
