Project Description
Specialist Hand Therapy
Specialist Hand Therapy
What is Hand Therapy?
Hand therapy is a specialist area of physiotherapy focused on treating conditions involving the hand, wrist and upper limb. Due to the complexity of these structures, effective treatment requires a detailed assessment and highly targeted rehabilitation approach.
Treatment aims to reduce pain, improve flexibility, restore strength and optimise hand function, helping patients return to work, sport and everyday activities as quickly as possible.
Whether you have developed hand pain gradually over time, suffered an injury, or are recovering from surgery, specialist hand therapy can help maximise your recovery and long-term outcome.
Why Choose Specialist Hand Therapy?
The hand is one of the most intricate structures in the body, consisting of multiple joints, tendons, ligaments, nerves and muscles that must work together seamlessly. Following injury, surgery or the development of conditions such as arthritis or nerve compression, specialist rehabilitation is often essential to achieve the best possible outcome.
At Complete Physio, we offer:
- Expert assessment of hand and wrist conditions
- Evidence-based post-operative rehabilitation
- Post-operative wound care and scar management
- Custom splinting where required
- Rehabilitation focused on both strength and fine motor control
- Close liaison with hand surgeons and consultants where appropriate
Our therapists have extensive experience managing both routine and complex hand conditions, helping patients regain confidence, function and independence.
What We Treat
We treat a wide range of hand, wrist and upper limb conditions, including:
- Hand and wrist sprains, ligament injuries and fractures
- Post-surgical rehabilitation (e.g. tendon repair, carpal tunnel release and Dupuytren’s release)
- Wound care and scar management following surgery
- Carpal tunnel syndrome and nerve-related conditions
- Cubital tunnel syndrome
- De Quervain’s tenosynovitis
- Trigger finger and trigger thumb
- Osteoarthritis and thumb arthritis
- Tendon injuries and tendinopathy
- Dupuytren’s disease
- Sports-related hand and wrist injuries
- Repetitive strain and overuse injuries
- Post surgical-distal radius fracture fixation and carpal metacarpal joint (CMCJ) replacements
Many hand and wrist conditions present with similar symptoms. Accurate diagnosis and early intervention are often key to achieving the best possible recovery.

Every treatment programme is tailored to the individual and designed around your goals, whether that is returning to work, sport, hobbies or simply carrying out everyday activities without pain.
Your treatment may include:
