Always keen to learn and further develop his musculoskeletal ultrasonography skills, Complete Physio director, Dave Baker, flew out to Ibiza (it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it!) for MUSOC (Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Society) 2016, which was a gathering of the world’s leading musculoskeletal ultrasound practitioners and lecturers. The lecturers really were a who’s who in the world of ultrasound, including John Jacobson, Antonio Bouffard, Andrew Grainger and Eugene McNally who led five intensive days of ultrasound scan lectures and practical’s, leaving just a little time in the evening for enjoying the sights and sounds of Ibiza.
Dave Baker reports that this really was an inspiring five days by some of the world’s leading lights in the field of musculoskeletal ultrasound. It is always important to keep pushing yourself if terms of your clinical practice, knowledge and skills, and who better to facilitate that than some of the world’s leading researchers and authors of musculoskeletal ultrasound, who have been pushing the boundaries for some 26 years in this area. The lectures focused on technical scanning skills, advanced scanning techniques and ultrasound guided procedures.
The days were intense, with up to twelve hours mixed lectures and practical’s on most days. However, there were opportunities to go and relax by the pool at the Grand Hotel Ibiza when things become too much and the brain need to let off a little steam. The course had days lectures grouped by anatomical region with days dedicated to shoulder, elbow and wrist, hip, knee and foot and ankle regions. Practical scanning workshops provided the opportunity to exchange ideas and tips with radiologists and sports doctors from around the world with delegates congregated from over 30 countries. We all had one thing in common that was very clear – a passion for musculoskeletal ultrasound and a drive to improve our skills.
All in all it was a fantastic opportunity to expand one’s knowledge and potential in this area, learn loads of new tips and techniques in both ultrasound and ultrasound guided interventions, much of which will, no doubt, be of direct benefit to my patients in the years to come.
Roll on MUSOC 2017!, highly recommend to anyone who is as passionate about musculoskeletal ultrasound and wants to push their scanning ability to the next level.
Don’t let pain hold you back, book now!
