What is the benefit of an ultrasound guided injection?
There is a lot of research which demonstrates that ultrasound guided injections give better levels of pain relief, give longer lasting effects, and improve the functionality compared with injections that are done without ultrasound guidance (blind/surface marked injections). There is also evidence that it reduces the risk of trauma or misplacement of the needle and/or the injection substance, therefore improving the safety of the injection and reducing the risk of adverse events associated with injection therapy.
How do I book?
To book for a steroid injection you can call our normal reception line, 0207 482 3875 or email direct to firstname.lastname@example.org requesting an appointment for an injection. Please include your name, date of birth, your address and GP contact details. You will be sent a form to complete and forward back to us or bring along on the day which gives information about the injection. It also asks questions about past medical history and any reasons why we may need to seek advice from your GP before proceeding with the injections, i.e., IDDM or patients taking Warfarin, and allow us to raise the prescription for your injection. You will be seen, assessed and evaluated with ultrasound scan before receiving an ultrasound guided injection.
Ultrasound guided injections of any joint cost £160, which is inclusive of the assessment and/or the ultrasound scan. If on the day the decision is made not to proceed with the injection, you will be charged the normal initial assessment fee for the clinic in which you are seen.
Which body parts are you able to inject?
Steroid injection can be very effective for frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis of the knee, trigger finger, osteoarthritis of any joint around the body, localised soft tissue inflammation or tenosynovitis, such as tennis elbow or tendon inflammation at the shoulder. We also provide Ostenil (hyaluronic acid) which can be very beneficial to patients with osteoarthritis who are keen to keep moving and active (hyperlink to Ostenil/hyaluronic acid within the website).
